Captain Cavedweller and I ran away for the weekend to a big city. It was wonderful and special and just what we needed after a particularly challenging week.

1. In the city, the sight of people playing music on street corners never ceases to make me think that I’d never have the chutzpa to do such a thing – even if I had any marketable musical talent.

2. In the city, they have things like multi-level shopping malls, where yours truly sighs in bliss before frantically trying to hit as many stores as possible in a very brief amount of time.

3. In the city, we get to eat at one of our favorite restaurants and I devour their chicken marsala and chocolate mousse cake with glee.

4. In the city, we strolled around the park, watched the water rushing from the spring run-off down the river and your truly wished she had packed a coat. That spray-filled air was cold. Bitingly so.

5. In the city, we stayed at a hotel across the parking lot from a mall. It made me sigh in bliss again as I ran from the hotel across the parking lot, dragging CC along for the ride.

6. In the city, CC got to spend an hour or so wandering his favorite store left alone by me. I took my Kindle and sat reading in front of a display of wild animals. I hope the grizzly bear fully enjoyed the romance novel I was reading.

7. In the city, CC stopped to get hot, fresh doughnuts that made the trip home somewhat challenging with the smell of maple bars filling the car.

8. At home, piles of laundry waited, hungry cats meowed at the back door, the mess in our backyard hadn’t magically disappeared and we momentarily considered running away again.

A few weeks ago I was lamenting the fact that I wish I had purchased more new clothes hangers to Captain Cavedweller.

(Aren’t you jealous of the intense, completely stimulating conversations that take place at my house?)

Anyway, having a strong dislike for my closet full of plastic hangers that have seen better days, I bought a package of the new slim flocked hangers I’ve seen everywhere.

I love them. As in LOVE THEM!

If you haven’t tried them yet, they are, like, totally awesome, dude!

They have this great flocked coating which means your clothes cling to the hanger instead of slithering off as they tend to do with the plastic hangers. They are also super slim which means I can get about three of them in the space of one plastic hanger.

Not sure that I would like these hangers, I bought one package to give them a whirl. They whirled quite wonderfully and I wish I had purchased several packages.

I was completely surprised the other day when Captain Cavedweller came home from a trip to the city packing an entire case of these hangers.

“What’s this?” I asked, wondering why he bought the hangers.

“You said you wished you had more of them,” he said with a shrug and went back out to finish unloading the car.

When I finally scooped my melted self up off the floor, I quickly changed out all the hangers in our closet, realizing that not only do I have one of the best husbands ever, I now have a lot more room in my closet for more clothes. I see a shopping trip in my near future…

Did you know it’s National Humor Month?

How come no one tells me these things? I’m not good at discovering this info on my own in a timely manner. I usually figure these things out a week or so after the fact. Thank goodness I had the entire month to catch up on this one!

Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine, and something we need on a daily basis to be healthy and happy.

What makes you chuckle, giggle, smile, laugh until you cry?

Whatever it is, find some of it today and enjoy.

I’m pretty fortunate in that Captain Cavedweller keeps me very entertained. He finds it a big challenge to be serious, which means there is a lot of silliness and teasing that goes on at our house.

Despite the fact that we are both feeling sleep deprived and half-awake thanks to an onslaught of allergies, we laughed most of way to work on our drive in to work this morning. It is a rare day that he doesn’t say or do something that strikes me as funny.

Maybe you have a friend, a sibling, a co-worker who makes you laugh. Maybe you check out websites like A Joke A Day to get your giggle on. Maybe you see the humor in everyday things. Goodness knows the felines at our house provide a never-ended source of entertainment. (Then again, CC and I are easily entertained.)

Wherever, whatever or whomever makes you smile, spend some time today laughing. See if you don’t feel better for it.

It’s Monday.

It’s raining.

The weekend flew by way too fast and due to that fact, all I’ve got for you is a list of all the reasons why I feel completely discombobulated today.

1. Captain Cavedweller’s Mom called yesterday morning and left a message that his uncle had been mugged. By the time we returned her call after church and then waited for her to get home and call us back the panic had subsided and he was on his way home from the hospital. Remind me to not move to the town where he lives in Arkansas.

2. I put on my armor of long-sleeved sweatshirt, heavy jeans and elbow-length leather gloves to do battle with my rose bushes Saturday.  Due to multiple scratches, puncture wounds and one thorn still embedded in my finger, I think they came out ahead.  I look like I “wrastled a bobcat,” as my grandpa would have said, and lost.

3. CC turned into a slave-driving maniac and made me help him dig up all 973 bricks that line our backyard flower beds. We are getting ready to have our entire septic system and drain field replaced and anything we want to save had to be piled somewhere safe until the work is finished. I’ll share more on this awful project soon.

4. I made two new recipes this weekend. One involved tender beef, waffle fries and sour cream. The other involved bananas, cream and more cream. Both were a hit although my arteries are feeling a bit sluggish. I’ll post the recipes in a week or so.

5. Dirt clods exploding approximately 3.7 inches from where one obnoxious cat is doing something he ought not be doing causes said cat to jump approximately 3.7 feet into the air and run for cover. Not that I know about these things first hand.

Hoping you all have a great Monday!
