A while back my friend Colleen, that would be the beautiful redhead on the left, asked me if I would be interested in co-hosting a party to help her friend Katie, the sweet blond on the right, jump start a new direct sales business. Having started two separate direct sales businesses, I know how much those first few parties can help a newbie. And Katie joined a great company that offers the most fabulous products.

How could I say no?

So here was the deal: I’d take care of the food and Colleen would do all the real work. I felt a little guilty about it, but managed to suck it up and forge ahead. In case you missed the recipes, you’ll want to try the Tortellini Bites and Lemon Cookies. So easy and impossible to stop at just one.

Several lovely ladies came and joined us for an afternoon of fun and learning all about Private Quarters.

If you’ve never heard of them or attended a party, Private Quarters offers plush robes, fluffy towels,  fun spa items and the most wonderful, delightful luxurious bedding. They call it Seven Layers of Bliss and it truly is blissful.

It is so blissful, in fact, that I ordered a few of those seven layers of bedding and have now decided I must give my bedroom a mini-makeover to go along with the beautiful new goodies that will be arriving soon.

Check out their products, dream and drool a while. I know I certainly did.

Thanks, a lot, Katie and Colleen for introducing me to Private Quarters and for giving me the inspiration to embark on yet another home improvement project. I’ll let you know when to come over to help me paint!

Happy Spring!

Even though it is cloudy and cool and trying to rain here today, I can’t tell you how excited I am that it is officially spring!

Hooray!

Spring means green grass, cheery daffodils nodding their little golden heads and breezes that carry more warmth than chill. It is budding trees, and the loamy smell of earth coming back to life after a long winter’s rest. It’s lemony treats, fresh paint and dust motes dancing in streams of sunlight while you deep clean.

What does spring mean to you? What signifies spring in your corner of the world?

Whatever it is, enjoy!

She Who is Giddy That Spring Has Arrived

Yesterday I sat down to my computer and noticed the time was an hour off.

How could that be? The computer clock is always correct right down to the nano-second. Maybe in my still fuzzy-headed not-quite-awake state I was reading it wrong.

Nope, still an hour off.

So I wandered around the house and all other clocks read the right time. Hmmm.

Back to the computer where I decided I’d just change it. Silly machine. What was it thinking. Only it wouldn’t let me change anything.

Then all of the sudden a thought hit me. Could it be daylight savings time? Nah, way too early for that.

But a quick look online confirmed that yes indeed it was daylight savings time. Which confirms again my existence under a rosy-colored rock where I block out 96.7 percent of what is going on in the world at any given time.

I may have to lift the rock on occasion so I don’t do things like miss church completely when the time changes.

So as of today, hold me to it… no more hiding under my rock – at least for only 88.9 percent of the time.

The other day I found this envelope in my mailbox. It was from my Daddy. (I’d stop right here and tell you how much I love Priority Mail envelopes, but I’ll save that for another day).

For his birthday in December, I begged and pleaded and whined with anyone who would listen to share stories, photos and memories  of my dad and assembled it all into a book for him. I think he liked it… at least a little bit. So that inspired him to start writing down his memories. He’s been keeping me faithfully updated every week on his progress. When I spoke with him Sunday, he said he was mailing me his “mess” to take a look at. So when the envelope arrived the other day, I certainly wasn’t expecting his memories to be all typed and categorized.

He decided to call his story “The Adventures of a Gypsy.” When he and my mom were young and crazy and newly married, they moved something like 17 times in 13 years. I’m glad I wasn’t around for all that excitement. My brothers and sister got in on all that fun. By the time I  arrived in the picture, they had firmly sunk their roots into the family farm where they lived for almost a decade before I was born, and still live today. The only move that has been made in the last 40 years was when they built a new house on the place and moved from the old farm house into the new one.

I have to tell you, when I sat down and started reading Daddy’s memories, I was surprised by all the stories I don’t remember ever hearing. He did a great job of providing details, dates, names, and he even added in pictures with descriptions. I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have these memories, especially with Daddy’s handwritten notes. What little bit of a sense of humor I have, came from him and he was on a roll with his stories. I was laughing so hard, Captain Cavedweller stuck his nose out of his man cave to see what all the ruckus was about, then sat and laughed along with me.

Stories and memories are priceless. Truly they are. Especially when they come with photos like the one above attached. Goodness only knows what they were up to, but my dad would be the character on the right.

If you’ve thought about writing down your memories for your kids or grandkids, stop thinking about it and do it. They won’t care if you hand write them, type them, record them or put them on video. The important thing is to preserve them in some form.

I’m so glad my Daddy did.
