Archive for the ‘Hubby’ Category

I think it was the second Christmas after Hubby and I wed that someone started giving Hubby  pieces for a Christmas village. What started out as a few little pieces we enjoyed getting out for the holidays quickly morphed into an obscene number of village pieces that required a lot of effort.

That would be the exact moment when Hubby lost complete interest in The Village.

As much as I would like to lay the blame elsewhere, I think I was the guilty party who started the whole snowball rolling. I vaguely remember purchasing a few pieces on an after Christmas sale. I bought them because 1. They were on sale! 2. Hubby collected Coke memorabilia and they fit the bill 3. It sounded like a fun idea at the time.

This was one of the first pieces I drug home. The old-time store with Coca-Cola emblazoned across the front.

As time went on, it seemed both his family and mine joined in the fray of giving us more pieces every year. We have lighthouses, castles, tree houses, inns, and just about every building a town could possibly want.

One of my favorite buildings is this cabin. It makes me think of Currier & Ives holiday scenes.

I could envision myself hanging out in the Tea Room. It looks like a fun and tasty place to stop during a busy day of shopping.

Hubby enjoys The Village from afar (as in he will look at it, comment about it and find a place to set whatever new pieces he may acquire during the holidays – but goodness sakes, don’t expect him to help set it up!).

Along with way too many buildings, we have a varied assortment if extra pieces.

Like this bridge that goes over the pond, hurried shopper, skater and the homeless man who sleeps under the bridge. All he needs is a cardboard box.

I like this sleigh because the couple looks like they are having fun and that has always been something I thought would be nifty – to have a one-horse open sleigh.

The expression on the snowman’s face makes me smile every time I look at it. Is he afraid the deer is going to eat his nose? Lick him into a puddle? What is the deer thinking? So many intriguing questions.

I would be the guilty party who added these three mischievous raccoons to The Village. Two years ago, three raccoons came on nightly raids through our backyard, terrorizing the Heinous Cat and wreaking havoc around our house. Hubby referred to them as the Invasion Force. When I found this piece, I knew Hubby had to have it for his village.

So despite the fact that I grumble about setting this up and Hubby continues his act of not being interested in it at all, we both know it doesn’t seem like the holidays without it gracing a huge area of space in our home!

Do any of you set up villages?  I’d love to hear what is in your collection!

Happy Holiday Entertaining!

For my birthday, Hubby bought me a hand-picked box of chocolates from a local candy shop. When I say hand-picked, I mean that he selected each and every piece that went into the box.

He chose well.

There are decadent truffles.

Delicious caramels.

Little bits of coconut bliss.

Even lavender infused chocolates.

These chocolates are divine, delicious, spectacular. Just one bite sends me into a state of chocolate-induced euphoria.

And perhaps the biggest, most important detail of all is that almost a month later… I haven’t eaten them all!

I can’t tell you how glad I am that Hubby continues to support and enable my chocolate addiction.

If you’d like to check out the candy shop, their link is here.  I warn you, though, there may be drooling involved that could really mess up your screen and keyboard!

Have a great day!

Relaxation

Word of the Week: Relaxation

re·lax·a·tion

ree-lak-sey-shuhn

–noun

1.

abatement or relief from bodily or mental work, effort, application, etc.
2.

an activity or recreation that provides such relief; diversion; entertainment.
3.

a loosening or slackening.
4.

diminution or remission of strictness or severity.
After taking a few days off, she decided relaxation was not highly overrated.
Hubby and I took a week off for some much needed R&R. It was awesome. I think I read a total of 6 novels, ate chocolate most every day and did nothing that was not absolutely required. It was awesome!
If you have the opportunity to take even a few hours to relax and recharge, I highly recommend it!

He

He

Captain Cavedweller

My Hubby

The One who …

Makes me laugh

Keeps me grounded

Encourages my dreams

Likes me when I’m being ornery

Loves me unconditionally

Melts my heart almost daily

Especially when his Mom shares photos like this one. Nice haircut!

He is celebrating his birthday today. Birthdays, after all, are very special days. Ask my Aunt Robbie. She’ll tell you it is the one day out of the whole year that is yours. When everyone gets to celebrate you. So today, we are celebrating Captain Cavedweller.

You know, when you are young and goofy in love and just starting out in married life, you really have no idea the kind of person your chosen mate will be 10 or 15 years down the road. You hope for the best and live life one day at a time. Then you wake up one day and realize you are married to a pretty special person.

The kind of person who stands and listens patiently to little old ladies He’s never met before chatter on about their cats, cooking, or craft projects because they are lonesome and just want someone to talk to. The kind of person who stops to help a stranger change a flat tire even when He is bone-tired and rain-soaked. The kind of person who is a kid-magnet because He gets down on their level, doesn’t talk to them like babies and joins in their fun. The kind of person who can make just about anyone laugh but also knows when a strong shoulder to cry on is what is needed most. Or the kind of person who knows when you need a nudge to hurry along or a warm hand to hold while He brings your frenzied run down to a walk.

You don’t think about all those things when you are starting out marriage, but you think of them as the years go by and you feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for loving and being loved by such a special person. I  am so very blessed and grateful for my hubby. My Captain Cavedweller. He.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Babe! Love ya!

Your Girl

P.S. Hubby’s favorite cake on the planet is homemade carrot cake. We’ll be enjoying a slice tonight. Give it a try – you’ll be glad you did!
