Did you know it’s National Humor Month?

How come no one tells me these things? I’m not good at discovering this info on my own in a timely manner. I usually figure these things out a week or so after the fact. Thank goodness I had the entire month to catch up on this one!

Laughter, as they say, is the best medicine, and something we need on a daily basis to be healthy and happy.

What makes you chuckle, giggle, smile, laugh until you cry?

Whatever it is, find some of it today and enjoy.

I’m pretty fortunate in that Captain Cavedweller keeps me very entertained. He finds it a big challenge to be serious, which means there is a lot of silliness and teasing that goes on at our house.

Despite the fact that we are both feeling sleep deprived and half-awake thanks to an onslaught of allergies, we laughed most of way to work on our drive in to work this morning. It is a rare day that he doesn’t say or do something that strikes me as funny.

Maybe you have a friend, a sibling, a co-worker who makes you laugh. Maybe you check out websites like A Joke A Day to get your giggle on. Maybe you see the humor in everyday things. Goodness knows the felines at our house provide a never-ended source of entertainment. (Then again, CC and I are easily entertained.)

Wherever, whatever or whomever makes you smile, spend some time today laughing. See if you don’t feel better for it.

If you’ve been putting off entertaining because you just don’t have any fun party ideas, why not choose a spring color for your inspiration?

Yellow screams spring time, daffodils and sunny days.

You can easily pull together a Mellow Yellow party theme.

Start with yellow card stock for your invitations or choose online invitations with some bright yellow accent like a smiley sun, bright tulips or lemons.

Decorations are simple – pile lemons into clear glass bowls, add a couple of yellow throw pillows to your decor. Fill a vase or two with yellow flowers and use a yellow tablecloth for your table.

Food choices can include anything yellow like pineapple, bananas, lemon (insert your favorite sweet like cake, cookies, tarts, pudding, pie), cheese, crackers, etc. Drinks can include lemonade and, if you want to really carry out your party theme, bottles of Mello Yello.

Of course, the hostess can also be attired in something yellow (unless the hostess is me in which case the hostess would look terribly ill).

Sorry, I digress.

I loved this dress. It just said Savvy Hostess while the shoes screamed  “We’re so cute! You should buy us.” Really, they did.

Have fun with your party theme and remember the most important thing is relaxing and having fun with your guests.

When I was a young girl, my mom had a circa 1960-something Betty Crocker cook-book for kids that originally belonged to my sister. I glommed onto it once I decided I wanted to bake and create in the kitchen. This was one of the first things I made. Mom also made these pear bunnies for us sometimes and they never failed to make me smile.

Easy and simple, make pear bunnies for Easter and see if your kids aren’t begging for more.

Ingredients - leaf lettuce, a can of pear halves (or fresh pears, cut in half) cottage cheese, cranberries, sliced almonds and Red Hots. You are supposed to use raisins instead of cranberries, but since I hate raisins, my bunnies have bizarre red eyes.

Put leaf lettuce on a plate. You can use as many as you like.

Place pear half on lettuce, split side down.

Add a dollop of cottage cheese at the broad end of the pear for a tail.

Stick in sliced almonds for ears, cranberries for eyes and a Red Hot nose.

Enjoy!

Here’s a fast and fun recipe you can make using bread dough from a tube. Youngsters, and the young at heart, will really enjoy these!

Ingredients - bread dough, an egg and salt. If you have refrigerated breadsticks in a tube they would be perfect. I used a tube of dough I had on hand. If you want to be miss Betty-homemaker, you could also use made-from-scratch bread dough. I was not feeling the Betty-ness.

If you are using a piece of bread dough, roll into a log (or take out of tube) and cut into slices about 1-1/2 inches thick.

Roll slices into about a 12-inch long piece.

Fold in half, this forms the bottom of the bunny.

Lap the ends over each other once...

Then twice to form the body and ears.

Reserve a few pieces of dough to make the tail. Just pinch off a little ball and place it in the space created by the twists.

Separate the egg white from the yolk. Lightly beat egg white and then brush onto bread before putting into oven. Bake the bread according at 350 degrees until lightly browned.

Enjoy!
