Valetudinarian

The other day when I was home sick, I wasn’t sure exactly what was making me feel ill, so I decided to go to one of those handy-dandy websites that let’s you type in your symptoms and brings up a list of possible “conditions” most commonly associated to the symptoms.

By the time said list of possible causes popped up on the screen, I was all ready to find the problem, get it fixed and return to normal.

It would seem I’ve got some major health issues.

According to the list of probable causes, I could have a brain tumor, vertigo, bleeding ulcer, anemia, anxiety, chronic sinusitis. And those were just the ones at the top of the list!

My palms grew clammy, I felt my fever spike, the screen began to swim before my very eyes. I decided I better get my affairs in order and bid Hubby and the cat goodbye. I’m a goner.

Then I threw caution to the wind and went with a description that I decided fit the best  –  hypochondria. Yep, that could most definitely be the problem.

Happy March!

Can you believe it? March 1 is finally here.

To me, the beginning of March is the end of winter, of knowing spring is just around the corner, when everything is fresh and new again.

Now is a great time to start digging into some spring cleaning. The weather is still cold and wet enough to keep us indoors, so use that time to your advantage. Sort through closets, clean out drawers, purge and merge all that stuff you’ve been hanging onto and get ready for your best spring ever.

Today I’m sharing a prior post with you about getting prepared for a new entertaining season. Enjoy!

Prepare for a New Entertaining Season

As the days grow a bit longer, the sun brings welcome light and warmth and the crocuses start to bloom, think about doing a good spring cleaning of your entertaining pieces. This will prepare you not only for a new entertaining season, but also to entertain with style on the spur of the moment.

Take out all your serving pieces, dinnerware, flatware – all of it! Anything you use when you have company over to eat.

Are there pieces that are chipped, cracked or discolored beyond hope of redemption? Get them out of your entertaining area and do something else with them. Cracked plates and platters make great bases for planters, can be used as wall art or broken into pieces and glued into a mosaic. You can even set cracked plates into cement and make garden stones out of them.  Just get them out of your cupboard!

Do you have serving pieces you don’t like to use but hang onto out of a sense of guilt (as in Aunt Madge gave you that hideous bowl for a wedding gift and you’d feel guilty getting rid of it)? Get over it! If you don’t love it, don’t keep it!

Do any of your dinnerware pieces need replaced? Take an inventory? You can find affordable china replacements through a variety of outlets online.

Look at all your flatware and serving sets? Do they need polished? Are the fork tines all in good shape? Do any of them need replaced?

If you have silver items that need polished, make them shine before you put them away.

Spending a bit of time now not only prepares you to entertain beautifully on a moments notice, it also rids your cupboards and closets of things you no longer like or use.

Happy Entertaining!

Hubby…

Captain Cavedweller…

He…

Can be a bit on the stubborn side every once in a blue moon. I know this for a fact. The symptoms are fairly easy to recognize since I suffer from them myself on an all too regular basis.

But Hubby, he likes to be tenacious over the most interesting things. Like hamburgers.

I have been a bit under the weather the last few days and told him he was on his own for dinner last night. So he decided to fix himself a hamburger. This general involves firing up the barbecue, a panful of greasy bacon and an oozing slab of melted cheese.

More power to him.

Around 6 last night, he had the hamburger patties ready (you have to have two for a real manly-man burger) and went out to fire up the grill.

He attempted to get the barbecue to light with no success. Coming back in to warm up, he decided to try again.

By 7 when he still couldn’t get it to work, I suggested he find either an alternate method to cook his burgers or find something else to eat. I offered him a Saltine cracker and, can you believe this, he point-blank refused.

At 7:05 things were looking hopeful, so he popped a handful of fries in the oven and took the burgers outside then turned around and came back. The light went out while he was playing the the fries.

At 7:20 he came back in, half -frozen and muttering darkly about plugged lines, wind and stupid grills.

At 7:30 he ate his fries and then resumed his attempts at getting the barbecue to light.

At 8:30 there was once again hope and he rushed out with the patties.

At 9 p.m. he sat and ate the burger despite the fact he no longer wanted it and was about ready to call it a night.

Yep, if tenacity had a face, it would like just like Captain Cavedweller.

I like my shoes to look clean and polished, really I do. But due to my lazy slug nature and the fact that I hate polishing them, they don’t always look their best.

Then, the other day Hubby and I were browsing around one of the local western stores and I found Justin Quick Shine Sponge.

Hello?

Why didn’t someone tell me about this sooner?

With a few quick swipes, my shoes have gone from looking dull and beat-up to shiny and polished.

Really, it is that easy! And here’s the best part – it cost less than $2!

What a deal!

So, if you want to try it yourself, check your local western store, shoe store or I found it online here.
