If you are still looking for a few last minute gifts for the men in your life, here are a few ideas.

These ideas, of course, are for your outdoorsy, non-techie, manly men guys who are impossible to shop for.

Not that I have anyone like that living in my house. Nope. Not at all.

These boots, by Polo Ralph Lauren , are warm, comfortable and rugged. They have just a hint of fashion edge to them, which is the reason I was completely shocked when Captain Cavedweller not only wore them, but liked them. Edgy fashion is usually not something you would associate with mister T-shirts and lace-up boots. You can find these online at Macy’s.

Speaking of T-shirts, I buy all Captain Cavedweller’s from Duluth Trading. They have these wonderful Longtail T-shirts that are cut extra long, so active guys don’t have to worry about exposing parts of their anatomy when they bend over. Duluth has some great stuff for guys – and gals.

Most of the guys in my family really like jerky. Captain Cavedweller always has a stash on hand and Jeff Foxworthy’s brand is one of his favorites. You can pick up jerky every where from the gas station to stores like Bass Pro Shops. Makes a great stocking stuffer!

The men in my world seem to have gone mad for Airsoft guns. These imitation firearms shoot non-metallic pellets (similar to a BB gun). Maybe they are all having Ralphie flashbacks to their longing for a Red Rider BB Gun. Whatever the case, Crosman has a great selection from rifles to pistols.

Captain Cavedweller likes knives. He generally loses his pocket knife at least once a year and a favorite knife manufacturer of his is Buck. They have a great selection of everything from hunting knives to every day pocket knives. They even have pink ones for the outdoorsy girls (not that I would notice these things).

Coats are also high on Captain Cavedwellers like-a-lot list. The more outdoorsy and rugged they are, the better he likes them. I’ve never gone wrong getting him something from Filson. They have a great selection of coats, vests, hats and assorted and sundry outdoorsy guy stuff.

Last, but not least, are gift cards. If you can’t think of anything else to give, go for a gift card to a manly-man store. Captain Cavedweller gets quite excited over Cabela’s gift cards.

Have fun shopping for the men in your life!

Eighteen years ago today, Captain Cavedweller and I stood before family and friends, exchanged vows and pledged our love to one another.

I could go all sappy on you here and tell you the million reasons I am grateful  to be married to Mr. Cavedweller.

Instead, I’ll say the following about my beloved:

He is my best friend.

He makes me laugh all the time.

He is my number one cheerleader and encourager of my dreams.

He is an honest, good man.

He spoils me.

He melts my heart daily.

He loves me deeply and unconditionally.

Captain Cavedweller is a blessing I am grateful for daily. I know that, after 18 years, we are both wonderfully blessed to be able to honestly say we are more in love with each other today than we were when we we wed. I thought we couldn’t love each other a drop more then and that was literally a drop in the bucket compared to how much I love him now.

I love you, My Captain.

Happy Anniversary!

If you are searching for a gift for a wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, aunt, cousin or other female in your life, here are a few suggestions.

For the woman who likes to cook and enjoys being in the kitchen, get her a Microplane grater. She’ll love it.

The first time I used this was to grate lemon rind. It melted me in a puddle right on the kitchen floor. The smell is beyond divine. Microplane graters should be a required piece of kitchen equipment. Seriously!

This can opener from the Cooking Institute of America is fabulous! It opens cans like nobody’s business and leaves a smooth edge. I absolutely love it. I’ve tried just about every kind of can opener you can think of from the clunky electronic versions to the metal do-hickies you can grab for a dollar to the expensive “best ever” can openers from specialty companies. This one beats them all hands down!

Give her some candles to scent her home. You might want to have some inkling of what scents she prefers – berry, fruity, spicy, woodsy, floral. These things are important to know. Someone who prefers spicy scents isn’t going to be wild about a floral candle. Two of my favorite places to buy candles are Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle.

Lotion and bath sets are always welcome gifts. Again, you might want to have some idea as to the type of fragrance she likes. Two great places to get quality lotions are Bath & Body Works or Camille Beckman. You can’t go wrong with a box of quality chocolates. Sees is an excellent choice as well as decadent truffles from Sweet Shop USA.

If you are buying her chocolates, make sure there is no presampling from the box or quality control measures going on. She should receive the box with every piece included. If she wants to share is up to her!

Give her a cozy robe, soft socks or warm slippers. Wrapping her up in snuggly comfort is a great way to show how much you care. Look for a microfleece or plush robe for the cuddliest fabric. Captain Cavedweller bought me a microfleece robe a few years ago and I love, love, love it!

Gift cards are also a great gift if given with thought.

If she would love a massage but would never treat herself to one, give her a gift certificate for a spa day.

An avid reader would appreciate a gift card to a local bookstore or try Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

If she’s been running like crazy through the holiday season, give her a night out with a gift certificate for dinner and a movie for two.

Think about the recipient and the types of things she enjoys, her hobbies and passions and you’ll find the perfect gift!

Happy Shopping!

A few weeks back, I had the brilliant idea to replace the lighting fixtures in our kitchen and hallway.

It seemed simple enough. Captain Cavedweller has installed lights before. No big deal.

So he started working on the first one, wires began to crumble and panic set in (on my part, not so much his). For three days I had a gaping hole in my kitchen ceiling where he had removed the ancient light fixture and the new one waited to be installed. That’s how long it took to get an electrician to come.

When he finally arrived, I was about ready to fall at his feet and offer him bonbons. After several hours, he had installed new wires, wired in the boxes for the new lights and updated two electrical outlets and a switch for me. Then Captain Cavedweller began the fun project of sheetrocking, texturing and painting.

Have you ever tried to cook a meal amidst sheetrock dust, tools, wire caps and did I mention sheetrock dust? Not the easiest thing to do, or the most fun.

I have convinced myself it was all worth it because now I have three lovely new lights installed that I love. At least I think I love them. It was discovered, by the bright illumination in corners of my kitchen previous left in the shadowed darkness, that my housekeeping has, perhaps, been somewhat lacking of late.  Maybe. A little bit.

But those dust bunnies and cobwebs have never had such a lovely light turned on them before!
