Antiques on Old Plank Road recently shared a fabulous new infographic that is a beginner’s guide to home decorating.

Even if you’ve been decorating your home for a while, this handy infographic is a great refresher in how to take the mystery out of changing colors, incorporate patterns, switching up furniture, and adding accessories to a room.

These basic concepts can help you create the space you’ve always wanted while alleviating some of the stress that comes with redecorating.

If you want to update the look of a room, dress up an office, or infuse new energy into a tired space, these simple ideas can help.

I’ve blogged about this site before, but I had so much fun playing with the color recently, I thought I’d share about them again.

Sherwin-Williams has this cool online tool called Chip It! You can upload any image and then paint chips to match it.

For example, I uploaded a photo I posted of Raspberry Muffins.

Here’s a wheat photo…

Love the color options.

Take a look at the photo I posted on the blog yesterday.

Gorgeous colors, aren’t they?

This would be a great tool if you have a piece of art and are trying to decide what color to paint a wall or if you see a photo you love and want to incorporate the colors from it in your home.

Or if you just like to play around with creative color options!

The service is free and so much fun!

And no, I’m not affiliated with Sherwin-Williams. I just think this is super cool.

spring

I saw this photo of Columbia Hills on Pinterest and it made me smile.

Not only is it a beautiful photography, it made me think of spring and warmer temperatures and blue sky and green grass –  all the things lacking in my gray-laden world right at the moment.

If you are wishing for spring, gaze at this for a few moments and dream of being there. You can almost smell the rich earthy aroma and hear the birds singing.

deco heart little rosesIf you are looking for an easy and fun craft idea for Valentine’s Day, here is one you can do in an evening.

deco heart ingredientsWhat you need to get started  are the following:

Mod Podge

Foam Brush

White Glue or a hot glue gun

An 8-10 inch Heart

1 Heart-Shaped Doily

Fabric or printed paper of some sort (I used a paper dinner napkin)

Lace

Assorted notions for trimming

deco heart cut out heartStart by tracing your heart on your paper and cut it out.

Two things I will note here:

First – I couldn’t find any wooden hearts at the craft store so I bought a metal heart at Wal-Mart for $1.97 and spray painted it white.

Second – I used a paper dinner napkin for the patterned background. You can use anything you like from a piece of fabric to gift-wrap, old sheet music or even a piece of newsprint. Whatever strikes your fancy.

deco heart add doilyCoat the front of the heart with Mod Podge, then add your doily (this can be paper or a crocheted doily) and coat it as well. Let dry about 15 minutes.

deco heart add lace with gluePrepare to add the outside trim. Using white glue, or a glue gun, carefully glue it all around the edge of the heart.

deco heart embellishmentsNext, add your embellishments. I used one bigger rose with a button in the center then added some rosebuds around the sides. I chose colors that coordinated with the pattern in the background.

deco heart button with roseI glued one rosebud on a button, just because it gave it a little more panache.
